Thank you for being here. My name is Courtenay, and I identify first and foremost as a reader. I can't ever remember a time in my life that I wasn't trying to get lost in a good story.

When I was a child, I couldn't get enough of stories like The Babysitters Little Sister - and as I got a bit older, The Babysitters Club. My mum tried hard through my preteen and teen years to get me to fall in love with the classics - Great Expectations, Wuthering Heights, etc. etc., and while I gave them a red hot crack, they just never really caught me. I preferred to visit Hogwarts over and over again.

As I got older, Mum shared her love of Marion Keyes with me, which is probably where I started to feel most at home. Then a relative started lending me her Danielle Steele novels and I couldn't get enough. But the true turning point for me was when I discovered eBooks.

eBooks made reading romance okay. It was the first time that I was truly able to embrace the stories I enjoyed most without feeling any lingering shame or embarrassment. And eBooks with Facebook gave me a community of other readers to interact with, to discover stories with, and a safe place to let all my flags fly without fear of judgment.

It also gave me the ability to interact directly with the authors I came to love.

Over time, that interaction led to being on ARC teams and reviewing books before they were released, and then I found myself picking up little inconsistencies or grammar fixes here and there. Before I knew it, I was proofing entire novels for authors I'd grown to admire, and be lucky enough to call friends.

It's taken a lot of soul-searching, back and forths with my husband, and a healthy dose of imposter syndrome, but with a very helpful nudge from said husband, I've decided the time is right for this wild ride of editing to become a service I offer to the greater world.
